Giko Hill is a special find from Rwanda, a country known for its rich coffee heritage. Emmanuel, the owner of Baho Coffees, introduced this unique project in 2019, tracing specific lots back to communities living on hills near his washing stations. This initiative sparked interest as it offers insight into the coffee's origins, a rarity in East African coffees. "Giko Hill" is a recent addition to this project, isolated in the 2021 harvest year, and is among the smallest of Baho's washing stations. This focus on microclimates within Rwanda reveals exciting variations in flavor. Giko Hill's coffee embodies the bright acidity of Yirgacheffe coffees, with hints of lemon-lime, nectarine, and bing cherry. The goal of the Giko Hill group, according to Emmanuel, is to foster mutually beneficial relationships with farmers, ensuring quality and quantity while paying fair prices. The Muzo washing station, where "Giko Hill" coffee is processed, sits amidst rolling hills, offering optimal conditions for sweet and fruity flavors.
